[ it is close enough she can touch! she may be surprised that it actually doesn't feel like fur. now that she's able to get a better look, the creature looks more...shadow-y than anything. wispy, if you will. touching it is a little akin to petting smoke like a velvety sort of nothingness.

nico continues with the bagel-prep on the other half while the baby blinks at tama with its glowy-eyes, chirping a greeting. ]

Mine were, too. But it was sleeping on them and didn't feel like moving by the time I wanted to leave to explore the hotel.

[ he really could stand to say that this creature is his home item, but he figures there's no point in stating what he thinks is obvious. ]

[ she is scritching the “fur” like it’s just straight up real fur. who’s a good baby. who’s the cutest little probable creature of the underworld? is it you? is it you?? yes it is. ]

Ohhh you are definitely not a regular cat, huh? [ she says, unbothered. in her lane. fussing this baby. ]

So you had to resort to bribery, and it’s being fussy about it. It’s not into bagels, then?

[ it shuffles a little shyly on nico's shoulder but it does allow the scritches, tentatively. ]

It only looks cat-like, even if I'm not really sure why. I tried to offer it a bagel earlier and it didn't like it, so now we're trying a bagel with something on it. It's usually not picky, but...I think maybe it's lonely. Usually it sticks close to its siblings.

[ who also stick close to nico, but whatever. ]

What is it then, if it’s just— cat-like, not cat? [ she’ll ease up a little when it wiggles awkwardly. ] I mean, it’s cute either way, even if it is being food fussy.

[ hmmm. ]

Did the preserved stuff you were hoarding include anything like canned meat or fish?

[ that gets him to pause. it's...hm. he's not sure how much he wants to explain about what it is, all things considered. but then again, tama is from a world that isn't like his own. so maybe just giving the name is okay. the shadow creature settles again when she eases up, watching her curiously. ]

It's called a cacodemon. [ he figures she won't know what that is, and so it's safe. ] I offered it a chicken salad sandwich yesterday and it seemed a little interested. That was about the best I could do. I don't think it has to follow a cat-like diet either. It's usually happy with sharing my pancakes and everything which is why I was thinking it's probably something else.

[ files away the “demon” part for now because— boy. it is cute though. aaaaa. adds befriending the baby to tama’s to do list. ]

If it was interested in the chicken salad sandwich, then maybe—

[ yeah it's just a lil demon, what's wrong with that? he's about to protest that he and his demon are both okay but ope, there she goes. ]

Um...? [ guess he will just wait here for her to come back!!! ]

pepperoni pizza and some other sandwiches with meat and/or fish in. yeah! ]

[ ah. he sort of smiles a little uncertainly upon seeing the food. ]

You think that might work? I didn't try sharing pizza with it yesterday.

Maybe? At the very least, there's meet on it, and if that's what it was focused on in the first place...

[ a shrug. ]

Worth a shot, right? Worst thing that happens is they don't want it and I go and feed it to Nimona.

I don't know if it was so much the meat as it was something new. There's a lot of food it's never seen before. [ the baby leans forward to sneef. ]

It's worth a try though. And good to know Nimona will take leftovers if we have to.

I get the feeling Nimona will eat anything. You know when people just have that vibe?

No, I guess that's a good point. I'm still getting a read on everyone here but she seems kind of easier to read than others. I'm less surprised when you put it that way.

[ how is the baby finding the smell of pepperoni and… feesh… ]

Yeah, there’s a lot of people to get a read on here. It’s not like a couple of days tells you everything about everyone anyway. People can surprise you.

[ the baby is curious but not particularly ravenous. it's not strictly a carnivore, but it seems morelike it's interested in food that's new. so the feesh is more interesting to it than the pepperoni right now. ]

And without knowing how long we're really going to be here, we might have our observation period cut short. [ haha. ] Have you met a lot of people here so far?

[ she nudges the feesh towards it, just a little. consume, little one. ]

A few? Some in passing, some in a bit more depth. We’re a pretty interesting group.

[ you know that scene in httyd where toothless sneefs the feesh before he just unhinges his wholeass jaw and reveals all of his teeth? that's what baby does with this fish, revealing several needle-sharp teeth but it doesn't bite tama. it shall consume. ]

Interesting is a word for it. I'm still trying to figure out everyone, too. There's a lot more of us here than I expected.

I've shared spaces with even more people before, but this is a downgrade. [ he reaches up to pat the shadow-creature while it eats. ] I'm still not sure why there's so many of us to begin with. What do they really need us for?

I guess we'll find out when we're able to pose 20 questions at the leaders...? If they show up at all.

They're going to have to if they want the hotel to stay in one piece. I can't imagine everyone will keep being patient for much longer.

We have caused so much property damage.

And this is just basic damage. [ soda is lowball shit. ] I'm a little afraid to see how creative people are going to get.

Soda's a pain to get out of things though -- it feels sticky for so long afterwards?

Sugar's already pretty bad. Liquid sugar's kind of worse. I've had enough cups of soda from McDonald's explode on me for a whole lifetime.
