It's weird that there's limits on our powers, isn't it? I could always use mine back home, too, until I didn't need to or until I passed out. Whatever came first. But here my power only works for an hour and then I have to recharge again, too.
It kind of feels like we're also being punished a little for being heroes in training. Like our powers are too dangerous for the city, but they're keeping us around anyway. [ he can understand why in a way, but it's still strange for people used to unlimited access. ]
You and me both. [ he just kind of scritches her head if she allows. ] I can only guess they're too afraid of what will happen if we're unrestrained and angry with the people who brought us here.
[ mostly because the answer is probably beat the shit out of them. ]
They should be. [she does allow!] I would've rampaged by now.
[she opens her mouth like she's going to keep talking, and then. closes it. tries again, on a different track.]
... You know, I haven't told anybody I'm restricted like that, here. Everybody thinks I can transform however I want. [she's been trying to be vague so people don't track her habits too much.]
[ see the thing he hasn't really mentioned to her is that back home most animals actually hate him because they can sense death around him. so it's been lowkey kind of nice to be able to pet a cat like a normal person.
but anyway. he nods and he seems to register that she's trying to tell him something important. it means he's patient and continues with scritches. not enough to distract or irritate her, but enough for idle movement and support while he waits. ]
...so why me? [ he understands exactly why she hasn't told people. he does not fully understand why she's actually telling him. ]
I don't know. I guess because I like you. [because he saw her in a tree and he tried to include her. because he never tells her what to do, just asks. one weird kid to another.]
[ he deserves it. but he considers this for a moment before he nods. ]
Everyone's going to continue thinking that then because they won't hear otherwise from me. [ that's not his secret to tell. ] It's scary being restricted though.
