Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion...though you may have once known it as the Crimson Phoenix dorm. As you approach, you may find that the area is hardly recognizable. There are several tables set up outside hosting all sorts of activities, and at the front and center is a small, cheerfully crackling bonfire. Scattered around the outside are several fake tombstones with equally fake inscriptions painted on them and lit by soft glowing lights with various skeletons posed around the graveyard. In the front on the way to the main door is a twelve-foot skeleton dressed as a witch, and from here you can see three inflatable pumpkins on the roof. Approaching the dorm itself, you'll find that the outside has been decked out in lights and decor, and the inside is just as elaborate and extra. Terrible idea to give teenagers unlimited money and time on their hands, huh?

As you enter through the lobby, you'll find that you may be guided to enter a haunted maze. Adventurers beware...

...but for those of you who are more interested in the festivities upstairs, residents of Phoenix dorm will happily shuttle you up to the second floor in an elevator decked out with floating candles. Upon reaching this floor, you'll be greeted with the lounge. There are plenty of couches with red cushions and blankets for maximum comfort, and the entire floor is equally decorated. Various horror movies play on mute from the TV mounted against the wall, and music seems to reverberate throughout the dorm everywhere you go. Loud enough to enjoy, but not loud enough to disrupt conversation. Hanging from the ceiling there also appears to be a large pinata in the shape of the moon, a large wooden stick leaning against the wall with a bandana draped over the top...batter up!

The four bedrooms appear to be blocked off with caution tape, but the two bathrooms and the kitchen are open to everyone. And while there's a third floor...there's nothing of interest up there other than space and more decor to admire as you mingle.

The party's just getting started. Have fun and get spooky.

Huh? --Uah!?? [ she finally notices it, and does a double-take. skeleton-cat-dragon????

she throws some salt at it. ]

[gets pelted by salt

for a second she is not entirely sure what to do with this but i guess she decides that she has to dramatically expire in response, which means she does a full thirty seconds of augh wuahh hhhghh with her paw to her heart and then falls over.

also, it's important to note that the bones are not real. it looks like a janky plastic bone cat from target, with bones where real cats don't have bones in order to make it more marketable.]

[ watches.

[she laughs, still sprawled out.]

You don't like the spooky stuff, huh?

It's just... dumb!!

[ and not at all because she's scared. ]

[you know those spider costumes they put on dogs and then make the dogs run at people and scare the piss out of them

a black cat wearing one of those shoots past, chasing a little black puff of smoke in a bumblebee costume

whatever nimona was gonna say is interrupted because she's laughing]

[ bwuh ]

... Soot???

[ rita's actually pretty okay with spiders (even comically oversized video game ones) so this one doesn't get as big a reaction as ghosts or skeletons do. ]

[ hidden in the shadows... and making ghost noises...before something tiny, white and fast zips right by her and runs over her feets. ]

[ she fucking jumps out of her seat. ]

Wh... what was that???

[ looking for it??? ]

[ the white thing zips by again, disappearing into the dark. unbeknownst to rita, it can't see and coincidentally runs into one of the fake skeletons that does a pirouette to land right in rita's arms. its mouth opens wide to smile at her before its arms seem to move as if to hug her. ]

[ there's a terribly high-pitched yelp of surprise. ]

Wh... what!?

[ she holds her arms out far away from herself, like she doesn't know what to do with this thing. what is this thing!! ]

[ okay, okay, now it's just kind of sad but he's still laughing and drops the fishing wire he'd been holding to control the skeleton arms, scooping up the white thing...which as it turns out is just the cocoa puff wearing a sheet over its bumblebee costume. the skeleton falls back, and nico emerges from the shadows in his party clothes that i am not writing about all over again, the flavortext is out there. ]

she grabs the skeleton by the ribcage and throws it at him. ]

You jerk!! Try another stunt like that, and I'll make you into a ghost!

[ his bat wings flip forward to surround himself and block the skeleton but he's still laughing, help. ]

Come on. It's fun! And this is the kind of stuff I do at home anyway! I mean the bones are real but...same idea.

[ Dang he was hoping to get a bigger reaction, but eh he hasn't had enough time to get back into the groove for stuff like this. ]

Just not your kinda thing? Or do you like the other holidays better?

I'm not really a "holidays" kind of girl, like in general.

But having one dedicated to trying to scare people is just extra lame.

[ the problem is the lameness, of course. ]
