Yeah. I just thought I was locked in by accident by some employee or a penguin.

We didn't even notice at first. I don't think it was until like half an hour later when one of us tried to leave that we realized we actually couldn't. But I remember Saya complaining about her phone not working. And Rocket's stopped playing music after a while.

I didn't think to check mine yesterday, but I had a ton of texts all at once this morning from last night. So I guess that's constant, too.

Yeah, I had a few from Nimona that she tried sending last night. I can't even think of what might exist here that could exert that much power to mess with a connection and us.

Is blocking these phone things that hard?

I don't know. I think there are some signals that are easily blocked, but blocking everyone at the same time and only for a certain amount of time is very deliberate.

So it's not as simple as just turning off a switch somewhere.

[ imagine they just did that. turned off the wifi. ]

I doubt it. [ ... ] Unless it's someone's power doing something to disable the network and also put us all to sleep. I guess that's possible.

Kind of a stronger power than the ones everyone else here seems to have, though, isn't it?

It is, but even a simple power can be strong with the right application. That's what I'm worried about. But that's also assuming it's someone with a power and not a villain or something with a special item.

We really don't have anything to go off of, huh.

Bullets and four locations. If you count where he started last night. Without knowing what kind of villains may be out there or what powers everyone has, the person responsible really could be anyone.

It's not like we know the city well enough to make a guess, either. They kept talking about "villains", but we don't know who they are or what they can do.

...and to be honest, we don't know for sure it was a villain either. Especially when there's over thirty new people here with a lot of new powers they may or may not have told anyone about.

... You think one of us might have killed Rocket?

I won't say that's a definite, but I'm not going to rule it out either. Especially when there's a competition and our own worlds at stake.

We don't even have proof of that yet.

[ maybe someone just... didn't know... guns kill people ]

We don't have proof for anything. That's why I want to look at everything. [ maybe some people don't know guns kill people and some idiots get arrested for it. ] What would qualify as proof?

I don't know. Never had to solve a murder trial before.

How are murders solved where you're from then?

... The marines, I guess. Depends if anyone cared about the person who died.

Yeah. [ a little quietly. he's looking up at the sky again ] The world's an uncaring place. It's not always true for people, but that's just the way things are otherwise. Plenty of people die without anyone noticing or caring, and plenty more have someone who cares but who can't do anything about it anyway.

[ ...well it's not like he doesn't understand that, considering. of course he does. he's seen plenty of listless souls wandering around that never really had much to claim for themselves. likewise, he's met plenty of people who have gone unnoticed for so long. ]

...death has a way of being very straightforward no matter who you are. But the living also often are too preoccupied with themselves to take notice of other people that are a part of their daily lives. Even if nothing can be done...do you think it's better to care about those people?

I don't know. [ it's more philosophical than he thinks of it. some people are unlucky, and no one ends up ever caring for them, because the world isn't a nice place by itself. but-- ] I don't think there's anything wrong with caring about others, though.
