[ well nico is making a trip to the vending machines, this time not loaded down with a million snacks and not dressed as pikachu. instead he's in his usual black attire and he seems to be lost in thought as he approaches a machine.

Three days really isn't that long. [ not in the grand scheme of things. but he looks at her wares before nodding slowly. ]

Three days is two more than I usually tend to spend at the same spot in middle of a ruined place.
[Which is why she's a tad antsy. Keeping everyone moving was always a very important facet of any expedition. You can't guarantee any safe spot will continue being safe day after day...and even though this city turned out to be far safer than any place in the Silent World, it still is an unknown location that was attacked. Can't breathe easy until they're far away from here!]

[ fair enough. he doesn't necessarily comment on that, keeping certain thoughts to himself before he moves forward to some of the vending machines. likely the ones with some prepackaged snacks like chips, snack bars and the like. easy, on the move stuff. ]

The cook in the expedition I was in not that long ago cooked well, but I'm...kinda sure he was adding candles into the food.
Lack of food. We were supposed to have enough food for the trip into the Silent World, but instead there was some sort of stupid mix-up and we got given a big crate full of candles instead. When we contacted our sponsors they sent another crate and this time there inside the box there was a bunch of carrots and also one untrained civilian who got rid of a lot of the good food so he could fit inside the box.
[Thank goodness for hunting abilities ensuring there'd tend to be some food, but of course, having to make their meager supplies last for as long as possible meant a little bit of...creativity]

Don't ask me. Someone screwed up along the line and nobody is going to fess up to that -- and from what Braids told us, he got into a random crate to travel some random place far from home and ended up with us because of bad luck. We couldn't send him back to safe lands, and he turned out to be a competent mage anyway, so in the end he it was a net gain in some way.

The bridge we used to get to the Silent World crumbled apart after we crossed. The ship to take us all back to land was scheduled to come in a few weeks.
[...more like the crew broke the bridge by accident while passing on it. Not their fault, it was on its last legs -- but she sure won't admit this, hah!
But yeah, the way they got supplies was that a ship unrelated to them got contacted and ordered to give them food, so the ship approached the coast, send them a raft with two crates, and left. No contact nor opportunities to board or send anyone back]

That's where everything used to be before! Where everybody lived. All the towns, the cities, the countries that are now gone...it's all 'the Silent World', beyond the frontiers of the safe areas we all know and love.

There aren't, but it's my job to try to ensure the safe areas can expand, you know? The Swedes are kinda helping by using fire to burn everything to cleanse the threats, but I sure would hate to do it like that. I so prefer face-to-face fighting.

Just...what good is this city if this is what they'll do to some kid whose only crime is to know zero things about gun safety?
[Which yeah, Mika was pretty stupid for that, but the thing about what happened is that it's partly solved by thoroughly educating Mika about the dangers of guns. It won't bring Rocket back to life, but it'd prevent Mika from doing anything similar to this again. What point is there in executing Mika, this is just ridiculous, she thinks!]

We never thought this city was going to be completely good, or they wouldn't have needed to kidnap us here to fix it for them. But now that we know how they really view heroes it makes you wonder if this was going to be inevitable the moment any of us did something they didn't like at all.
