weekend zero, sunday

[ well nico is making a trip to the vending machines, this time not loaded down with a million snacks and not dressed as pikachu. instead he's in his usual black attire and he seems to be lost in thought as he approaches a machine.

but he gives sigrun a nod of greeting. ]

Guess we'll be moving soon?

We will. About time.

[And there she is, staring at the vending machines with attention. Near her there already are several cans of soda, varied candy, and somehow, a fresh pizza vending machine]

I know the red boss would probably take care of us, but can't take anything for granted, can we? So before we leave, I'll try to take a thing or two.

Three days really isn't that long. [ not in the grand scheme of things. but he looks at her wares before nodding slowly. ]

Hey, I'm not going to stop you. Better to be prepared just in case, right? [ he says this but he's terrible when it comes to making preparations for himself. ] Try to grab more of the prepackaged stuff then. It lasts longer.

Three days is two more than I usually tend to spend at the same spot in middle of a ruined place.

[Which is why she's a tad antsy. Keeping everyone moving was always a very important facet of any expedition. You can't guarantee any safe spot will continue being safe day after day...and even though this city turned out to be far safer than any place in the Silent World, it still is an unknown location that was attacked. Can't breathe easy until they're far away from here!]

Okay, clearly you're familiar with all this than me. Can you show me 'the good stuff'?

[Prepackaged stuff is fine, and she sure will take plenty! Still, she'll ask for recommendations in case Nico thinks something in particular is better than the rest]

[ and here we are in the lounge of phoenix dorm, nico sitting on one of the couches with the cocoa puff and sort of scrolling through his phone. upon noticing sigrun though, he nods to her.]

...not really how I thought today would go.

Who would have thought it?

[Sigrun is still positively fuming. She's pretty obviously frustrated. After a moment, she drops her head into her hands, sighing heavily]

Just...what good is this city if this is what they'll do to some kid whose only crime is to know zero things about gun safety?

[Which yeah, Mika was pretty stupid for that, but the thing about what happened is that it's partly solved by thoroughly educating Mika about the dangers of guns. It won't bring Rocket back to life, but it'd prevent Mika from doing anything similar to this again. What point is there in executing Mika, this is just ridiculous, she thinks!]

[ he just kind of listens to her go for a moment. ]

We never thought this city was going to be completely good, or they wouldn't have needed to kidnap us here to fix it for them. But now that we know how they really view heroes it makes you wonder if this was going to be inevitable the moment any of us did something they didn't like at all.

[ spins the wheel today we are aaaaat...the hero memorial because he's busy looking at the statues of what are clearly the four leaders they lost. plus the photos of rocket and mika. he seems a little deep in thought, but he turns when he hears someone enter. ]

At least they had to decency to add Mika's picture, too. I wasn't sure they'd bother.

...it's kind of a relief. Had no idea the memorial existed, but if they had tried to be rude towards her or the little woodland sharpshooter's memory...

[It'd have been incredibly rude of them]

Or maybe one of the hero leaders placed the pictures there. Doesn't that seem like the kinda thing they'd do?

They were still working on it last week. I guess they were probably finishing the statues and everything to make sure they fit.

[ he considers that, because...sure, maybe? it's debatable given how things went, but that does make more sense. ]

That's probably more likely though. The city obviously didn't care enough not to punish her the way they did, so our leaders makes way more sense.

Week 1 -- Some Time After Trial

[Sigrun probably isn't anywhere Nico is at tonight, so they likely won't see each other for a while, but she does send a message at one point:]

thanks for answering my questions about your power during the trila

made me confident you had nothing to do with it

no regrets about having asked though i had to do that

[She's one to take action and at the time asking Nico about it seemed like the right course of action]

[ he doesn't answer back immediately because he doesn't always check his phone, but eventually: ]

just don't be surprised if the reverse ever occurs going forward
i understand why and i don't disagree with you doing it
there shouldn't be any leniency

sure grill me if you ever think i did anything to anyone don't be afraid of that

[Sigrun is...she's a tad soft despite her role as a captain and what not, truthfully. If she had good inklings a close friend or someone in her team did something wrong, she'd at the very least not direct suspicion at them, and at the very worst, try to take the fall, but at the end of the day she'd like to know.

There shouldn't be any leniency, but...send someone she knows well and supports to be executed? She can't see herself doing it]

in fact don't hold back if you ever have to do that

[Because if she can't be strong enough to do this, she hopes others won't back down if they're in such a situation.

She really hopes the day she'll have to face someone she wants to protect and try to help get them caught for a murder in this city will never come]

Week 2 -- Post-Execution

[When the trial ends, Sigrun just...goes back to the team dormitory, and goes to the training room. It's not a place she goes into often, really -- she's not all that into practicing with a static target, given she's far beyond 'the basics' with both kinds of weapons she uses, so...the only reason why she went in here is because she wanted a break.

And she gets there, sitting against the wall near the doors. For a moment she stares at them and says aloud, her voice echoing in the mostly empty room]

Sure wish things were as simple as it was before.

[When Jolyne and she had gone around stealing doors who'd have thought in the next few days she'd be gone three weeks, then she'd find one of his team members was wrecked to hell and back, then two people die in pretty horrible circumstances, then Sigrun herself is a viable suspect in one of those crimes and also a lot of people she cares about are suspects too, then an innocent one is voted for, and finally she had to watch someone she cares about execute Hans and get hurt in the process. Good grief these days were hell]

[ the thing about it is, he probably shouldn't be training when he's still pretty wrecked. and he knows what'll happen if will finds out he's even really tempted by the idea, but it doesn't mean he doesn't seek out the training room.

he's about to think better of it when he hears a voice and he pokes his head into the room to glance at her. ]

...I'm not sure this place was ever meant to be simple. If that's what you mean. [ they were all kidnapped, stripped of their items and abilities and forced into teams. that was a mess from day one as far as he's concerned. ]

[When Sigrun sees Nico for a brief moment she considers pretending she didn't say that aloud, and like everything was fine...but after a moment she relaxes, deciding to not bother with pretending]

I know, but at least before I could feel like I had some idea of what to do. I kinda hit a wall now.

[Things clearly are falling apart, given how bad the deaths were and how an innocent one got executed -- and that's without taking into account how people are getting hurt left and right, including a lot that Sigrun cares about]

[ it's debatable if he's going to stay for long, but he comes back to the dormitory with the full intention of grabbing some clean and dry clothes. however, he does not get too far before he finds sigrun, and he pauses long enough to nod to her. ]

I don't think I'm going to get used to two bodies a week any time soon.

[There she is, sitting to a couch, staring at the ceiling. She's already dreading the trial]

Whatever makes this stuff happen must have noticed we don't do too hot when there are two.

[She's surprised there aren't more corpses a week by now!]

Dunno how to feel about how we're the only crew without any losses, too.

[Like either they have gone unnoticed somehow, ooooooor the other shoe will drop and things will go real bad soon]

I feel like the "whatever" might just be people at this rate. [ or maybe the moon really is making people insane. he's not sure anymore. ]

I've thought about that myself. Kind of makes you wonder if that's on purpose or if someone might be planning something for later. [ yeah. he will come out and say it, because he has also been thinking of that. ]

Week 3 -- After Trial

[Welp. Sigrun is confined to the dormitories because really, getting visited by others really made her have to sit around...although truthfully, part of her wanted to be stopped from going out towards the jail.

Thankfully, she didn't go. And she didn't want to use text messages. So later at night, Sigrun is there at one of the couches]

Guess who came to make sure I'd have a remedy.

[No points for getting it correct]

[ that's completely fair. she's on the couch and nico's passing through the main room but he does stop to speak with her. ]

Sounds about right. I gave it back to him figuring he'd probably run into you before I did. Did you actually take it? [ he pauses to check her over. ]

He didn't leave until I did. And then... [Sigrun actually takes a moment to recall the name because she's in no mood for the nicknames she comes up with:] Then Jolyne did the same. And a bunch of others messed with the bandages.

It's not like I was going to lose the arm, it had been just a bullet grazing me. Wounds opening against isn't all that worth fretting about.

[She says that, but...at the same time, after Adlet's absolute betrayal, others seeming to show honest concern for her...

...it really did help]

w4 monday

[ mondays are terrible as always and it means that nico's ducking into the cafe to get a coffee to go. he's not entirely surprised to see sigrun (oceanside's not that big, after all) but he does greet her with a slight nod. ]

Hey. Getting an early start to the day? [ it is likely late morning at this point, actually. ]

Sure am, sure am. It totally has nothing to do with how this little cafe has some good stuff and I have money coming out of my ears.

[That they all have infinite money is something she's grateful for because it means she can just indulge as much as she wants. If there were expensive restaurants as potential locations she'd be dining at them so often!

So! Want to have the memories exchanged one after the other? Or want it to be two separate threads? I'm fine with either!]

[ there's a snort because that's fair enough. ]

Of course, how could I forget that money's real? [ haha. but he'll order something while he's talking to her before returning his attention back to her. we can do back to back if you want nick! usually i thread as one person shares first, they talk about the mem and then the other person goes so that is an option toooo. ]

But you're right, the cafe has some decent variety. I haven't gotten that bored yet.
